Like Bike to Work Day, Bike to Shop Day is an annual program that encourages people to ride bicycles for everyday transportation as part of National Bike Month celebrations. This day is a one-day promotion to encourage people to shop by bike at local businesses. Bike to Shop Day for the California Bay Area is set for May 21, 2016.

How can you participate in Bike to Shop Day?

For Local Merchants: Your business can participate by providing an incentive or promotional offer to people who arrive at their shop by bicycle. Your business will be listed and mapped on this web site using Google maps so it’s zoomable, clickable to view shop and offer information, portable with smartphone. Printed “Bike to Shop Day” window posters will be available to participating merchants.

For Silicon Valley shoppers: You can participate by hopping on your bikes to do your Saturday errands on May 21, 2016. We encourage you to visit the Bike to Shop Day participating merchants, as well run as any other errands. Merchants will be listed and mapped on this site using Google maps so it’s zoomable, clickable to view shop and offer information, and portable with a smartphone.

For Silicon Valley volunteers: We are actively seeking volunteers to recruit businesses in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to participate in Bike to Shop Day. As a volunteer recruiter, your job would be to reach out to your favorite local businesses, ask them if they would like to participate by offering a special deal on Bike to Shop Day, then assisting them with the logistics of the event, including delivering Bike to Shop Day posters for their business. For more details, see our volunteer guide.
